"This one's for not really torturing anyone."

Rejected cartoon, in honor of the U.S. Senate.

Should we civilians institute a system of medals to indicate achievement?
We would be wearing the Not More Than Twenty Pounds Over Ideal Weight Commendation ribbon, the Gives Directions to Tourists medal, and the Thinks Often of Recycling Recognition Badge.

Please share your ideas for civilian recognition awards.

No go, Charles. Unless you're a pacifist. But if you're just lazy, or scared, you get no ribbon for avoiding military service. How about a medal for Eschewing Any Inelegant Nickname. You could get one of those, Charles. And so could our little brother James, and one of our army buddies, Beauregard Hinton, (I think that was his last name). He was from Guam and he never went by "Beau."

Well -- my company does offer sterling silver pins that are awards for civilian accomplishments. We call them LifeLaureates and our motto is: You deserve to be decorated.
